Jan Vesely
Partner, Leader of EQT AI Infrastructure at EQT Infrastructure
New York, NY, United States
Vesely co-leads EQT's new AI Infrastructure strategy and controls how EQT deploys capital across data centers, power and connectivity deals globally.
Background
Jan Vesely joined EQT Partners in 2010 after working as an M&A analyst in Goldman Sachs' Investment Banking Division covering German-speaking Europe and CEE. He was made Partner in 2018 and built EQT's Transition Infrastructure strategy before being named, alongside Christoph Balzer, global co-leader of EQT AI Infrastructure when it launched in April 2026. He sits on EQT Infrastructure's Investment Committee and has led deals spanning digital infrastructure, energy, and distributed power.

Call-prep brief
Background
- Partner at EQT; joined 2010, promoted to Partner 2018; ex-Goldman Sachs M&A (Frankfurt, German-speaking Europe/CEE)
- Previously built and led EQT Transition Infrastructure; now co-leads EQT AI Infrastructure globally with Christoph Balzer (launched April 2026)
- Sits on EQT Infrastructure Partners' Investment Committee
Current focus
- Deploying the new AI Infrastructure strategy, seeded entirely by portfolio company EdgeConneX, targeting the physical stack for AI: chips-adjacent power, data centers, energy and fiber connectivity
- Actively pairing data center capacity with energy supply (100+ GW pipeline) to solve hyperscaler power-access bottlenecks
- Continuing to scale EdgeConneX (~20x capacity growth since EQT's 2020 investment) and Scale Microgrids (distributed energy/microgrids)
What he cares about
- Integrated, end-to-end infrastructure solutions rather than single-asset bets — pitches that combine power + compute + connectivity will resonate more than pure real estate plays
- Operational value creation across the portfolio (joint procurement, shared vendor relationships)
- Grid access and utility relationships, especially in Europe, as the binding constraint on AI buildout
Potential sensitivities
- EQT just seeded a new strategy with an existing portfolio company (EdgeConneX) — may be cautious about anything perceived as competitive with that platform
- Team is new and still hiring/organizing; bandwidth for outside diligence calls may be limited near-term
Questions to ask
- How is EQT AI Infrastructure sourcing deals outside the EdgeConneX ecosystem — is it open to co-investing with or acquiring competing colocation platforms?
- What's the underwriting bar on power availability/interconnection timelines given the 100GW+ pipeline claim?
- Beyond hyperscalers, how much of the strategy's capital is earmarked for neocloud or AI-native tenant deals versus traditional colocation?
